Out of print books on local history is one of our specialities, for example;
  • A large paper copy of 'Rising of the Luddites' by Frank Peel.
  • 'Walks round Huddersfield' by Phillips, in this case the copy is beautifully bound by Fazakerley.
  • 'Beauties of Yorkshire-England and Wales or Delineations Topographical, Historical & Descriptive' Bigland 1812.
  • Mrs Jaggers 'History of Honley', with a dustwrapper !

Chambers Collection



We have in stock a number of uniformly bound 'runs' of 19th century periodicals and magazines for example;
  • 'Chambers Miscellany volumes 1-20, bound in 10, in tan half calf with marbled boards.
  • 'Tales from Blackwood' volumes 1-12, bound in 6, in dark green half calf with red title labels.
  • ' Bentleys Miscellany' volumes 7,8,9,10,11, and 12, bound in black half calf with elaborate gilt ornamentation to spines.
  • 'North British Review' volumes 1-18, May 1844-1853, uniformly bound in tan half calf with marbled boards.
  • 'Punch' from its inception in 1841. An unbroken run through to 1899, 59 volumes in total bound in red half morocco with raised bands and 'Mr Punch' figures in gilt in each compartment.

British Essayists - 45 volume set. London, J Johnson et al 1802 bound in contemporary full mottled calf £1800.00. This set will be displayed on our stand at the York Book Fair in September.

Saxon Treasure



The short lived 'Anglo Saxon Review' attracted a number of eminent writers at the turn of the 19th/20th century. The series is, however, most notable for two things. The editor was Lady Randolph Spencer Churchill and the binding of each volume was a reproduction of a famous period or binders style.

Beautifully bound by Riviere this set of novels, by the ever popular Jane Austen, proved too much of a temptation for a customer at the recent London Antiquarian Book Fair.

Beautifully Illustrated Fairy Tales



Two items illustrated by Arthur Rackham; Waltons 'Complete Angler' and 'English Fairy Tales' retold by Flora Annie Steel. This latter book being a limited edition, signed by the illustrator.
